What type of fuel consumption measurement is better to choose: either with the help of fuel flow sensor DPT or with the help of fuel level sensor DUT-E?
An effective and the most accurate type is the use of DPT sensor that monitors the momentary fuel consumption with 1% measurement inaccuracy. The mounting of DUT-E sensor (and the calibration connected with it) has no effect on tractors, loaders and other vehicles moving on broken terrain. Fuel level sensor DUT-E works quite well on dump trucks, municipal vehicles, but usually it just completes fuel flow sensor DPT measurements.

While using the CKPT equipment, we have found out that fuel consumption indications according to float level differ a lot from the DPT sensor indications. Which indications are correct?
The DPT sensor indications are more accurate and more stable. Fuel consumption “according to float level” is given as an additional one and is to control the working capacity of the fuel level sensor. There are important parameters of the CKPT system based on the fuel level sensor such as fueling volume and fuel discharges from a tank. Nevertheless fuel consumption can be given only by a sensor in the fuel line – that is DPT sensor. In your case the fuel level sensor probably went wrong, it is to be replaced or recalibrated.

On what vehicles can fuel flow sensor DPT be mounted?
The DPT sensor can be mounted on the vehicles with engines made by the CIS plants (Minsk Motor Plant, Yaroslavl Motor Plant, Kamaz, ZIL 645, A-40 and other). If you have a new vehicle (after 2005) you’d better specify the model of the fuel injection pump assembly and accord with the Manufacturer or Dealer (go to Buy & Install CKPT) the possibility to mount the DPT sensor.

What is necessary to mount the DPT sensor on a vehicle?
In order to mount the DPT sensor on a vehicle you need Installation kit. Installation kit includes all necessary components for installation of fuel flow sensor DPT on the vehicle:
  • rotary angle piece bolts
  • bolts M8x30
  • nuts M8
  • check valve
  • bypass valve
  • seal rings
  • angle pieces
  • connection clips
  • washers
  • seal washer
  • reducer-nipples
The only thing you could need additionally is a bracket to fix the DPT sensor in a certain place.

Can the fuel flow sensor DPT be mounted on the modern engines?
The DPT sensor can be mounted on in-line engines or V type engines. We do not recommend to install fuel flow sensor DPT on vehicles with unit injectors.

Is it possible to use CKPT system to monitor fuel consumption of diesel engines in steady-state conditions (diesel power stations) that have large tanks?
It is possible, but one must keep in mind that the data logger CKPT 31 Lite has fuel flow rate limit of 1000 l.

Is it possible to mount the DPT sensor on BelAz trucks, diesel-powered locomotive?
Today the DPT sensor maximal fuel flow rate is 200 l/h.

Is it possible to mount CKPT system on a vehicle with 2 tanks?
When the system is mounted on 2 tanks we can consider 3 variants:
  1. A fuel sensor is in one tank, the tanks are constantly connected. CKPT system can be mounted only if the connecting tube is of a large diameter and does not have a fuel lock. In this case two fuel tanks are viewed as one.
  2. A fuel sensor is in one tank; the connecting tube is thin and/or has a fuel lock. We do not advise to mount CKPT system as it would not control fueling volume and fuel discharges from tank without the sensor.
  3. Each tank has a sensor and the sensors are not connected with each other. It is possible to install CKPT system; software “CKPT-Manager” registers the sum of fuel in 2 tanks. However the accuracy of fuel consumption record in two tanks is low and we do not advise to use this type of installation.

Is it necessary to buy the GPS-receiver or is it a part of the data logger set? Where is the GPS-receiver installed?
The GPS-receiver is a part of the CKPT 31 Lite GPS or CKPT 31 Lite BT/GPS set. It is magnet-mount antenna and is installed directly on the roof of a vehicle cab. It can also work under windscreen. It does not work under bridges, in tunnels, in the shadow of buildings. The GPS-receiver can be used to determine a vehicle speed.

How is recorded the speed and traveled distance of a vehicle with a mechanical speedometer?
You can get the information about the speed from the data logger CKPT 31 Lite with GPS option or with the help of a DCA adapter. The DCA adapter demands the power supply of 12 V. It is also possible to use other electrical speed sensors.

What do we need to view the traveled distance of the vehicle on the map?
You need the vehicle data logger CKPT 31 Lite with GPS option and a map report RASTR which is addition to the software “CKPT-Manager”.

Where do you connect the return fuel line? Will this affect the accuracy of the reading and performance of the engine?
In order to mount fuel flow sensor DPT it is necessary to change a bit fuel system. DPT is installed behind the final filter. The low pressure fuel pump sucks in fuel from a tank through the rough filter and pumps it in the line "final filter - DPT - high-pressure fuel pump". It is obvious, that for the account of fuel using this scheme it is necessary to change placement location of the bypass valve and superfluous fuel discharge so that fuel discharge is in front of DPT. Otherwise major portion of fuel passed through DPT will come back to a tank and will come to DPT repeatedly, DPT consumption will be 3-6 times higher. Therefore the bypass valve is usually transferred on the final filter; the return pipe from it can go to a tank or other standard place. The standard installation place of the bypass valve is plugged up with a plug from the installation kit of DPT. The check valve is installed on the DPT output. The return pipe of injectors is poured out in a tank and is not taken into account.
On vehicles with unit injectors we do not recommend installing fuel flow sensor DPT using above-mentioned Installation scheme. On such vehicles it is possible to mount two fuel flow sensors DPT: one for the supply line and another for the return line.
