On most modern cars, tractors and other mobile vehicles exchange of information between units such as engine, dashboard and gearbox is performed in digital form. For this purpose, units are connected to each other physically – by means of special cables – and logically – by means of standard protocols. The combination of cables and protocols represents on-board CANBUS.
CANBUS contains much useful information for monitoring of vehicle’s operating parameters such as fuel consumption, fuel level in a tank, vehicle speed. Thus, if on-line GPS tracking & Fuel monitoring terminal CKPT 45 is connected to CANBUS, there is no necessity to connect additional fuel flow and fuel level sensors. Information about fuel consumption goes to CANBUS from ECU and has somewhat greater measurement inaccuracy (about 5%) than using fuel flow sensor DPT.
In CANBUS also «runs» information about technical condition of the vehicle. In order to obtain this information it is necessary to have a special device (scanner) which is available at authorized service centers. Nowadays we are designing wireless diagnostics systems for vehicles.
Terminal CKPT 45 has functions of data collection and diagnostics of vehicles via CANBUS.
